I offer several online training courses for anyone interested in governance and operation of charities in England & Wales. The courses aren’t complex, with almost no legal jargon: I’m not legally-qualified (about me) and want to make this training as easy as possible to follow.
Each one of these courses is introductory to its subject area, with suggestions and links to more-authoritative and in-depth sources, plus after-course written guides.
- Starting a group for good – what a “group for good” actually is, why you might want to start one, and how to do that: whether you want to start a community group, a charity or a community business. This includes brief guidance in how to Register a charity or a community business.
- Running a group for good – guidelines about how to easily and safely operate your group, once it’s established. This looks at everything from planning, how you meet, the finances, your policies, day-to-day running and how you tell others what you’re doing.
- Trustees’ roles and responsibilities – this more-detailed course is for charity trustees in England & Wales, and those involved with, or interested in, governance of those charities. This is always as up-to-date as I can make it, with written guides and explanations available after the course.

Any of the courses can be provided for your organisation at a reasonable cost, or individuals may be able to attend one of these courses run by another charity, especially if you or your group are in Berkshire.
